How the calculation works

  1. Metal value

    Weight in grams × purity × today's 999 rate. The rate already includes 15% import duty and 3% GST on the metal.

  2. Making (labour) charges

    Jewellers charge for labour as a percentage of the metal value, a rate per gram, or a flat amount. Plain chains and coins are cheap to make; filigree and handmade pieces cost much more.

  3. GST on making

    3% GST applies to the making charge as well.
