The kilogram-to-ounce maths
Price per troy ounce = price per kg ÷ 32.1507
A troy ounce weighs 31.1035 grams, so a kilogram contains 1,000 ÷ 31.1035 = 32.1507 troy ounces. Divide the Shanghai per-kilogram price by 32.1507 and you have the per-ounce price in yuan; divide again by the USD/CNY rate (¥6.7119) for dollars.
Be careful with the everyday ounce: it is 28.35 grams, about 9% lighter than a troy ounce. Converting with the wrong ounce is the most common mistake in Shanghai price comparisons.
