How the bill is built

  1. Gold value

    Weight × purity × today's 24K rate. 22K gold is 91.6% pure, 18K is 75% and 14K is 58.5%.

  2. Making charges

    The jeweller's labour, as a percentage of the gold value, a rate per gram or a flat amount. Plain chains and coins cost least to make; intricate and handmade work costs most.

  3. GST

    3% GST applies to the whole jewellery bill. Our rate already includes it on the gold, so the calculator adds 3% on the making charge.

What is the GST on gold jewellery?

3% on the value of the jewellery, including the making charge, when you buy from a jeweller. The 5% rate you may see quoted applies to job work, when you give your own gold to a goldsmith and pay only for the making.

How do I check the purity of gold jewellery?

Look for the BIS hallmark: the BIS logo, the purity grade (for example 22K916) and a 6-digit HUID code, which you can verify in the BIS Care app. Hallmarking with HUID is mandatory for gold jewellery in most districts of India.
